An interesting and unusual record, hard to categorise; it carries you through a present without teleology but has a presence that’s substanital, if elusive. Thoughtful, sometimes provisional, compositions that take their final form as a combination of midi conversions of the original compositional data, electronic re-composition - orchestrated and augmentated by the real played instruments of the ensemble. The result is a suite of compositions that can’t be distinguished from the sounds from which they are built - sometimes reminsiscent of incidental film or television music; unfolding in a series of scenes and moods. A sucessful experiment, I think: mysterious, redolant and intriguing.
