MOORE, ANTHONY: Monkey's Birthday (LP)
MOORE, ANTHONY: Monkey's Birthday (LP)
Only released in vinyl - so normally we would not stock it. But this has so many connections that we decided to acquire a handful for those of you who will not want to pass it by. Released by our old friends Paradigm in a limited edition of 500 copies, it collects soundtrack extracts from David Larcher's six-hour epic experimental film, Monkey's Birthday - shot between 1973 and 1974, on a long road-trip through Western Europe to Vienna, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and on into Turkey, where the caravan of vans and lorries stalled and dispersed. On board were Larcher, his wife and child, the painter John Meaker, film-maker, Jonathan Langran, his wife, Anthony Moore, who had composed the soundtrack of Larcher's previous film, and his SlappHappy bandmates Peter Blegvad and Dagmar Krause, both of whom participated in the making of the soundtrack which, for the most part, is built from documentary recordings made en route and some speaking. It's dreamy and psychedelic, with lots of echo, processing, voice-overs and electronics. With a large format 4 page foldout with pictures and notes by Anthony and others.
