A posthumous recording of Keith Tippett's last commissioned work - a suite of pieces for brass ensemble, reeds and voice (Julie Tippetts). This is rich chordal brass writing with plenty of space for every sound to count - and some impeccable singing on Julie's part with the addition, variously, of clarinet, tenor and soprano sax, melodica and synthesiser. It's non-generic, highly convincing, immersive and timeless, and follows - as Keith always did - its own musical path, evading easy categorisation. Unflashy with nothing to prove - but with deep and reliable musicality. Made for listening.
