Fred Frith is the thinking person's guitar hero. Starting out with British avant rock band Henry Cow, in the early 70's, he later became a key component of the New York scene, playing with John Zorn's Naked City, Skeleton Crew, and Massacre (with Bill Laswell). Along the way he contributed to albums by Robert Wyatt and Brian Eno. He regularly tours the world as a solo guitar improviser, and in duos with the likes of ex Pere Ubu drummer Chris Cutler. As a contemporary classical composer his works have been performed, amongst others, by the Ensemble Modern and the Arditti Quartet. Incredibly, given his roots as an avant garde rock guitarist, he is now a professor of composition at the prestigious Mills College in Oakland, California.

ReR is proud to announce that we will be re-releasing Fred's essential back catalogue, which originally appeared on the Swiss REC REC label, alongside new and other archive material. The CDs will be co-released by Fred's own signature label, Fred Records. The back catalogue has not been available for some years, since Fred parted company with Swiss label Rec Rec after a change of ownership.

The first two releases, scheduled for February 2002, will be the classic "Gravity", one of Fred's most popular and enduring releases; and the new CD "Accidental", which continues Fred's series of music composed for dance collaborations.
