The book documents with photographs and articles, drawings, interviews and facsimile documentation various outdoor events, installations and interventions by the late American violinist, art-film director and compelling maverick, Tony Conrad, key player in early American minimalism, drone music and essential member of the mid ‘60s dream syndicate with La Monte Young, Marian Zazeela, John Cale and Angus McLise. The DVD features two performances from 2012: Chant, for 6 performers and two tape recorders (they make long loops and introduce progressive distortion), the musical material is drone based and centred on various given just intonation intervals; and Early Minimalism, May 1965, which establishes Conrad’s vital place in the early exploration of minimalism and microtonality. I was convinced by this - nice piece, well played. Here's also an interview with Conrad out and about in NY, about 80 minutes long. This is a fascinating document and vital for anyone interested in the history of music and the arts.
