LOCKWOOD, ANNEA: Thousand Year Dreaming / Floating World
Longtime maverick composer Lockwood with two large pieces, the first for Conch Shells, Didgeridus, various wind instruments, frame drum, tam-tam, stones, waterphone and occasional voice - a structured drone in five parts with a lot of microtonality; the second is a 35 minute blended soundscape bringing together a number of location recordings - by various friends - into a rather meditative, but very physical sonic construction. In both cases the intentions are mystical and spiritual as much as they are musical. The soundscape piece is works extremely well.
