URBAN SAX: Live in Pori 1984 (VINYL)
Back in the glory days, this spectacular, theatrical mass saxophone project could tour. For a while they showed up everywhere, 20 or 30 costumed horn-players, moving around, standing on roofs, surrounding their public and playing a kind of thick, harmonic, minimal music. Sometimes they’d recruit locals and expand the instrumentation. This recording was made at a gig in a parish church in Pori (Finland) in 1984 and features 43 musicians, 8 of whom are singers, two guitarists and one bass player. The sound is not particularly good but after two minutes getting used to it, that really doesn't matter; this huge musical beast has an addictive logic of its own that’s completely convincing.
THIS IS A VINYL RELEASE.
