MORTON FELDMAN: 5 Orchestral works and 4 first recordings
Feldmanís orchestral writing is much under-represented on record, so this is a rare treat. Four of these pieces appear on record here for the first time. The contents, spanning 25 years, are: Intersection I (1951) the first recording for large orchestra, a meaty, brilliant and uncharacteristically loud interpretation of this graphic score realized somewhat artificially (the orchestra didnít play all together from the graphic score) - but probably the better for it; Structures (1962) and On Time and the Instrumental Factor (1969) both fully scored and following Feldmanís sequence-form, one timbral texture hanging next to another; Voice and Instruments (1972) adds Martha Cluver, Soprano as an extra instrument; Orchestra (1976) allows the floating clouds of tone-colour to overlap and interact a little . Performed by Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and conducted by Brad Lubman,
