HENRY BRANT: Vol. 4 Meteor Farm
First performed in 1982, this massive work lends the weasely term World Music some dignity and purpose. Written for around 200 performers, including a conventional orchestra, The Weslyan singers and a concert choir, organ, gamelan orchestra, South Indian trio, West African drum ensemble and jazz big band, this massive work intersperses and juxtaposes different musical traditions and vocabularies to extraordinary effect - as only Brant, seemingly, is able to pull off. Exotic, disparate, irrational, yet somehow acceptable - even logical - this recording is simply in a class of its own. A fine recording of the 1982 performance, conducted by Brant himself, Neely Bruce and Richard Winslow. Music as experience. L
