ANKER, LOTTER: What River is This?
ANKER, LOTTER: What River is This?
A deep, grounded novel of a work, performed by Lotte Anker, Phil Minton, Anna Klett, Garth Knox, Jesper Egelund, Fred Frith, Ikue Mori and Chris Cutler – an ensemble of winds, strings, percussion, electronics & voice. A close composition, by turns subtle, careful, wide and rich. Hard to describe because it falls outside the usual categories; but there’s a lot of work with sound and timbre alongside a lot of close writing. In form I suppose it’s an extended contemporary chamber suite with improvisational buttresses that moves from Jackson Pollock to Japanese print. And it’s a single, integrated work, with a clear dramaturgical trajectory - texts (sparse) are by Jorge Luis Borges and Ursula Andkjaer Olsen.
