SNOW, MICHAEL: 2 Radio Solos
Made in 1980 and originally released on cassettes in 1988 these two pieces feature unmediated and unedited performances by the radical film-maker, visual artist, musician and national treasure Michael Snow, on a 1962 Normende radio. A frequent feature of '60s experimentalist music, the radio is rarely used as a solo instrument; I can think of no other record like this, making it an important document, if a relatively late one. Virtually no speech material appears and obvious shortwave scanning (as in Kurzwellen) is also avoided. An important document and it works on several level. Gallery release, short supply.
