AN ANTHOLOGY OF NOISE & ELECTRONIC MUSIC VOL.7 (triple CD).
Last in this critical series of sweeps through 94 years of noise and electronic pioneering. In this volume are Henry JACOBS, Dziga VERTOV, Bebe & Louis BARRON, Luciano BERIO, Bulent AREL, Don PRESTON, Benjamin THOGPEN, Helmut SCHAFER, Slawek KWI, Siobhan McDONALD, Thanasis KAPROULIAS, SAULE, Edouard Leon-Scott de MARTINVILLE (1860), John OSWALD, Israel QUELLET, Dennis WONG, Alan COURTIS, Fausto ROMITELLI, Justin BROADRICK, Storm Bugs. E.A.R., Henry COW, Osso Exotico, Eugeniusz RUDNIK, Eduardo POLONIO, Cabaret Voltaire, Miki VAINIO, Alma LAPRIDA, Juan Jose CALCARCO, Klangkrieg, Gintas KRAPTAVICIUS, Warong RACHAPREECHA, The New Blockaders, GX JUPITTER-LARSEN, and half-a-dozen others. There are some great and historic pieces (Jacobs, Vertov, Barron, Berio, Bulent, Oswald, Cow, Rudnik, The new Blockaders, Larsen) along with a useful overview of more recent work, mostly in the noise field - an acquired taste, but in digestible snippets, covering the field. A must for scholars. It has been interesting to hear as the series progressed, how not only the aesthetics and the nature of the sounds themselves, but also residual ideas of musicality and anti-musicality have been totally transformed in a mere half century. Nicely packed and well documented.
