JOHN CAGE: Shock Vol 2
In October 1962 John Cage and David Tudor went to Japan to present a series of historic concerts. These are invaluable recordings, not least because they arenít of selected repertoire reconsidered in tranquility but capture all the atmosphere of a time when all this was new and highly radical. And itís a fine programme - played by the best exponents. Volume 2 contains Karlheinz Stockhausenís Klavierstucke 10 performed by David Tudor and John Cageís 26í55.988 for 2 pianists and a string player (David Tudor, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Kenjo Kobayashi, with Yoko Ono adding some characteristic vocalising). Thereís some very radical amplification (and maybe treatment) going on too, to judge by the recording. Itís a really wild piece. Comes in a nicely packaged double-fold card sleeve, with fine pictures, and notes.
