LOWENSTERN, MICHAEL: Spasm
Contemporary works for bass clarinet solo, with tape, and with percussive voices. A fine and very listenable collection. Particularly notable are Lowenstern's own pieces: the unplaceable with-attitude 'Spasm', the deceptively simple 'But would she remember you?' (both with tape) and his remarkable solo arrangement of George Gershwin's 'Summertime' - but all the pieces here, by a range of modern composers, are imaginative, different and exquisitely performed.
