FAUST: Faust IV plus (double)
From EMI, the original Virgin release, much of which was recorded at the Manor in 1973 (some being carried over from Wumme); plus the Peel show, some out-takes from the Manor sessions and alternative versions of several of the pieces. The sleeve notes are unreliable (some are just obvious nonsense, for instance the claim that Faust introduced an unknown and poverty stricken Mike Oldfield to the studio - where he'd been already been working for over a year) and the usual mythmaking obfuscation, but then, this is EMI. As I recall, the band hated the Manor and were unhappy working there. But there are some fine pieces here nonetheless.
