TRAD DADS, DIRTY BOPPERS and FREE FUSIONEERS. BRITISH JAZZ 1960-1975
TRAD DADS, DIRTY BOPPERS and FREE FUSIONEERS. BRITISH JAZZ 1960-1975
A curious but immensely valuable collection of very rare and previously unreleased recordings of some of the key figures in the peculiarly British dialect of pushing-at-the-fringe jazz, generally overlooked behind the racket of the beat explosion between 1961 and 1975 - although a great many of them wound up slipping in and out of projects with the outer fringes of rock, you’ll recognise the names, which include, Mike Taylor, Henry Lowther, Lyn Dobson, Harry Miller, Kenny Wheeler, Alan Skidmore, Chris Pyne, John Stevens, the legendary Joe Harriot, Ian Carr, Don Rendell, Gary Windo, Mongezi Feza, Nick Evans, Roy Babbinton, Elton Dean, Robert Wyatt, Archie Leggett, Nick Evans, Mark Charig, Louis Moholo, Lol Coxhill, Steve Miller, Laurie Allen, Norma Winstone, Roger Dean, Art Themen, John Marshall and Graham Collier. It also documents a fast-moving time in British music and the rapid evolution of changing styles and languages, the incorporation of amplification and un-American influences. Very listenable, with a lot of great music, this also is an important historical document and a work of love from Reel impresario Michael King. Nice cover too and useful liner notes. All proceeds to the Musicians’ Benevolent Fund. L
