ART ZOYD: Symphonie pour le Jour ou Bruleront les Cites Deux Images de la Cite Imbecile
ART ZOYD: Symphonie pour le Jour ou Bruleront les Cites Deux Images de la Cite Imbecile
At long last a reissue of Art Zoyd’s classic album - with about 25 minutes of excellent additional material. When this first came out in 1976, Art Zoyd was a scary, high energy band, playing complex, intricate and very fast compositions for an unusual line-up: bass, guitar, violin, trumpet (the always impressive Jean-Pierre Soarez) and some small percussion. They were filed close to Magma back then, even sometimes opening for the group, though the similarities were mostly attitudinal and technical; Art Zoyd followed their own aesthetic. This CD, however, reproduces the later, also very impressive, 1980 remake, with a much expanded line-up that includes Univers Zero’s Daniel Denis, drums and percussion, Patricia Dallio, keyboards, and Gilles Renard, saxophones. It is a mighty work that has aged well, supplemented here by two long pieces from the same period and 7 short extracts from the theatre music for Don Juan by Gerard Hourbette and Thierry Zaboitzeff. Art Zoyd were one of the 8 original RIO groups.
