GEORGE KENTROS and MATTIAS PETERSSON: THere are no more four seasons
A radical deconstruction of Vivaldi’s greatest hit by virtuoso violinist George K with live electronics and real time processing by Fylkingen alumnus Matthias P; they take it apart and see how many ways they can tangle it up and put it back together, mostly involving noise, distortion and starry-eyed rhythm - but always retaining the harmonic structure and compositional shape of the original. This is a serious and radical piece of work (and not without humour) that is not only gripping, but grows on you; perhaps it’s the combination of decay and complexity set against Vivaldi’s exquisite melodic sense and structural simplicity. Or the mindlessness of electronics entangled with the expressivity and touch of a fine violinist (however put upon and mangled by the electrons). Perhaps. Anyway, it works. And it’s in a class of its own. A nice idea, brilliantly realised.
