THE SPECIALIST CATEGORIES

Internal collections have been distilled from the catalogue for specialist users and researchers. These may be especially useful when taken in combination, eg: EAST EUROPE + GUITAR + SOLO will find any recommended solo guitar CDs from Eastern Europe, or JAPAN + GOOD COLLECTION will find recommended samplers of music from Japan and SE Asia, or CLASSIC IN FIELD + 60's, 70's, 80's will find classic experimental rock from those eras. Etcetera. Here are some brief explanations of the categories that are not already completely obvious, like SOUND AND RADIO ART or ReR LABEL: You can search on all categories see list.
RIO RELATED	This collects the extant recordings of the 7 bands who constituted Rock In Opposition, while it lasted, plus a handful of groups who would possibly have been invited to join if we'd continued, or who I think are closely musically related.
USRIO	Some American groups, connected by choice and musical interest to RIO, who I think stand out
SONG	Approaches to the song form that I find interesting, innovative, or excellent.
COW	As many recordings as possible made by ex members of Henry Cow.
STUDIO	Highly innovative use of the Recording Studio as an instrument.
SAMPLE / PLUNDER / TURNTABLE	Critical uses of samples, plunderphonia and turntables-as-instruments.
CLASSIC IN FIELD	As the title implies, these are records which I personally feel are classics in their field. A fast track to an essential collection.
ART-HISTORIC	Recordings that chart important, mainly early, historic contributions to the evolution of the application of recording technology and recorded sound in the realm of sound and gallery art.
60's, 70's, 80's LANDMARKS	Another historic category collecting what I take to be important landmarks in the history of experimental and extended rock.
SOLO	Solo recordings by one artist exploring one instrument.
DRUMS, GUITAR PIANO	The separate categories DRUMS, GUITAR and PIANO collect exemplary or innovative contributions to the extension of those instruments, or where these instruments are central.
GOOD COLLECTION	Pretty self explanatory, selected from the many collections, these are those I recommend.
ECCENTRIC	These have something about them.
SOUTH-AMERICA, EASTERN-EUROPE, JAPAN and S.E.ASIA	These categories are purely geographical
